“Behold, I stand at the door and knock”:
J
ust as God knocked at the doors of the hearts of people in the famous passage in Revelation, so he returns to knock at our doors, to encounter and to be encountered in the many paths of everyday life. He will do so with the Eucharistic-Missionary Jubilee of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Institute of the Clarist Franciscan Missionaries of the Blessed Sacrament (CFMSS) in Bertinoro, where they were born, and from here it will spread throughout the world.
The God of love has surprised us once again with an unexpected gift that will allow anyone to obtain the Plenary Indulgence, under the usual conditions, by visiting not only the chapel of the Motherhouse of Badia of Bertinoro, but also all the chapels of the CFMSS communities scattered throughout Italy and the world.
The Indulgence can be obtained for oneself or for the dead, and can be gained once a day for an entire year, from May 1, 2023 to May 1, 2024. This Holy Year of Plenary Indulgence, granted by the Apostolic Penitentiary on the occasion of the 125th anniversary of the founding of the Institute, will officially begin on May 1, 2023, there in the convent of Badia of Bertinoro where the Institute was born in 1898, with a solemn Eucharistic Concelebration presided over by Bishop Livio Corazza; but the same Grace can be experienced for an entire year in all the communities of the Religious Family around the world.
The Badia therefore opens its doors wide to the world and to all those who wish to participate in this solemn celebration, at which the sisters who are members of the 17th General Chapter will also be present. This liturgy will indeed be the heart of the Chapter event, which will be celebrated in Bologna from April 27 to May 26, 2023. On morning of April 27th morning, His Excellency Cardinal Matteo Maria Zuppi will preside over the solemn Eucharistic celebration, which will be followed by the official opening rites of this important event. 43 sisters from different parts of the world, representing the 13 nations in which the CFMSS are present, will be gathered together in listening, discussion and fraternal discernment: Italy, Spain, Romania, India, Myanmar, Madagascar, Germany, Brazil, Guinea Bissau, Senegal, Argentina, Bolivia and Peru.
In this way, our Religious Family extends its gaze to the whole world, participating wholeheartedly in the missionary spirit that animated the Foundress of the CFMSS, Venerable Mother Serafina Farolfi, and which continues to inspire and move the journey of the sisters today. It will be a year of surpassing Grace for those who wish to draw near to God’s mercy, where the Eucharistic-Missionary charism of CFMSS will unite with the missionary spirit of an entire ecclesial community on its journey.
Eucharist is Mission: this charism is also fully synodal and beats in unison with the great heart of the Church. In the words of Revelation, “If anyone hears my voice and opens the door to me, I will come to him and dine with him and he with me” (Rev. 3:20). The God of the unexpected awaits everyone at the threshold of the doorway to begin a new journey of togetherness and love.
