Vocational Testimony of Sr. Clarice

I was born in Raposos, Minas Gerais, but when I was nine I moved to Belo Horizonte. On Sundays, I went to Mass with my aunt in the Sisters’ Chapel at Colégio Santa Glória. That’s when seeing the Sisters made me curious to know more about them and my aunt explained what she knew. When I was 11, I went to study at the São Joaquim Institute (of the Clarist Franciscan Missionaries of the Most Blessed Sacrament) in Conceição do Mato Dentro and my desire to become a Sister just got stronger.

In the holidays of 1944, during a spiritual retreat, I told the priest that I wanted to be a cloistered Sister and he advised me to become a Clarist. During every day of the spiritual retreat, I asked Jesus, especially when each Sister received communion, to tell them what I wanted. When the retreat was over, three Sisters (Mother Clara, Sister Francisca and Sister Maria da Glória) approached me and told me about my desire to become a nun. So on 18 September 1945 I arrived at the convent of the Clarist Franciscan Missionaries of the Most Blessed Sacrament. Since that day I have been the happiest person on earth!
