We began our day with adoration of the Most Blessed Sacrament, followed by the prayer of Lauds, seeking strength and inspiration so that throughout the day we could live according to God’s heart, loving and serving our brothers and sisters.
This year our St Clare Community in Gabú was renewed with Sisters Florinda Costa and Sá, who returned to Guinea-Bissau after a period in the Venezuelan Mission.
Adriana Fonseca de Alcântara joined the new group and Sister Florinda took over the Nutritional Recovery Centre (C.R.N.) where malnourished mothers and children are received for nutritional awareness and accompaniment.
The Mothers’ House receives pregnant women with high-risk pregnancies in order to facilitate better clinical care, reduce the maternal and child mortality rate and provide greater access for pregnant women when they arrive at the hospital to give birth.
We have also been enriched by the arrival of junior doctor Belmira Sábado Fernando Tambá, who is helping to reorganise the Nutrition Centre’s pharmacy.
Ângela Margarida de Freitas continues to work in the evangelisation of the villages on the outskirts of Gabú, in assisting the parish, in Confirmation catechesis, in the spiritual accompaniment of teenagers and in the diocesan and parish vocations group.
Geralda Xavier Portugal, the community coordinator, also continues with evangelisation in the villages and adult catechesis in the parish.
We are present in the villages of Sonaco, Bondjezinho and Buruntuma for catechesis activities, community orientation, visiting families and celebrating the Word in the absence of the parish priest Fr Daniel (a Spiritan religious).
We are happy and very excited, because every day we feel the presence of God accompanying us and of Mother Mary, the first missionary disciple.
